The Great Gathering

As anyone viewing this blog probably knows 3rd July marked the 75th Anniversary of Gresley A4 Pacific Mallard’s record breaking steam run. To mark the event the National Railway Museum has gathered together all six remaining A4 locomotives. This week I was lucky enough to get a ticket for Tuesday night’s NELPG/NYMR special viewing evening since my dad’s a member. As it was an exclusive event there were not too many people so with a little patience there were plenty of photo opportunities and near the end of the event they also cleared the area around the locomotives and removed the steps for clear photos of all six although the light was a bit challenging by then. I’d last seen the two repatriated A4s Dominion of Canada and Dwight D. Eisenhower at Shildon shortly after they arrived back in the UK and I must say the museum has done a fine job in their cosmetic restoration. All in all a most enjoyable evening.Mallard75th-1830aMallard75th-1846aMallard75th-1873aMallard75th-1895aMallard75th-1917aMallard75th-1922a

  1. I have not tried to get over to York yet as their seems to be too many people, however I am working a `SSE` next Tuesday and will be parking in the NRM car park so may get a glance when there are not too many bods in the way.
